Youth Leadership, LIT (Leader in Training) and STEM Programs (age 9-15)

In today’s rapidly advancing world, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and leadership programs are not mere extracurricular activities; they are crucial educational tools that shape their future. These programs serve a dual purpose: they lay the groundwork for the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers while simultaneously nurturing the development of young leaders who will inspire and enact positive change in their communities and beyond.

Leader in Training (LIT) Legacy Lab

JUL 2-5 Orientation plus a minimum of 2 additional camp weeks (up to 7 at no additional cost)

The LIT (Leader in Training) Legacy Lab camp program at Loyalist College is a dynamic, flexible summer opportunity designed for young teens aged 13 to 15 who are eager to step into leadership roles and gain valuable experience working with children in a supportive, educational environment focused on STEAM and play-based learning.

Under the guidance of our summer staff, LIT’s will engage in hands-on activities that involve assisting camp counselors, leading activities, and organizing special events tailored to our LINKS youth camps. This immersive experience is structured to foster a deep understanding of leadership in a unique STEAM-based camp setting, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.

The LIT Legacy Lab Program is designed to accommodate a select group of up to 15 participants per year, ensuring personalized attention and a tailored mentoring approach. Participants must complete the orientation week (July 2-5) plus an additional minimum of (2) weeks of camp [maximum 7 weeks at no extra cost] to receive their LIT Legacy Lab Certification.

While completion of the LIT Legacy Lab program does not automatically secure a counselor position in subsequent years, it serves as a foundational step for teens to understand the responsibilities and rewards of being a leader. Graduates of the program will emerge with a solid foundation in leadership principles, ready to volunteer within our Summer Camps and/or other Children’s Foundation initiatives for the remainder of the summer, further applying their skills and contributing to the success of our camps and communities.
