Succession Planning : Develop a Program to Retain Your Staff
This two-hour workshop is designed for HR leaders as well as Managers and Supervisors.
Historically, succession planning has been the creation and implementation of a strategy to assess high potential employees and provide them with leadership opportunities in the future. In today’s market we acknowledge the importance of succession planning and providing everyone with an opportunity to learn and grow within the organization – that’s fair and equitable for all.
This two-hour workshop will focus on the fundamentals of succession planning, and it will also spotlight the importance of considering succession as it relates to learning new equipment or processes, as well as succession to team leaders and management positions. At a high (introductory) level, we will review and discuss strategies related to cross-training, job shadowing, and training and then consider how these experiences provide employees the opportunities for succession in the organization.
Participants will be asked to provide feedback on the methods (if any) of succession planning that their employer currently uses. We will then consider some of the existing challenges and methods to overcome these challenges while following a process and documenting decisions that acceptable to everyone involved. When done right, succession planning, creates an engaged and motivated workforce.
