Competent Supervisor under OHSA

It’s 10am on a Monday, and in the last three hours you have:

  • received a work refusal from a contract employee;
  • been informed by HR that vacation payout needs to be communicated to staff because of an Employment Standards Act update under the Working for Workers Act; and
  • spoken to three of the night shift crew who told you about an incident that took place, and you don’t have any documentation about it.

It’s all so overwhelming and there is so much to know. Today’s leaders must be informed and familiar with the ongoing legislation and updates to that legislation.

Exploring your Obligations under OHSA

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act all employers must ensure their supervisors are deemed “competent”.  Competence implies the appropriate knowledge training and experience to handle the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

How You’ll Benefit

In this program we’ll explore the Occupational Health and Safety Act and your duties as a supervisor or manager.  This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to meet the key “competency criteria” set out by the Act and regulations including having the knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace and being familiar with the Act and regulations that apply to the work.

Who Should Attend?

If you have supervisory responsibility at your workplace and have not been trained as a “competent person” under the Occupational Health and Safety act, you should attend.
